Hotel Continental
Geneva, Switzerland |
Our first stop in Switzerland was at the Hotel Continental in Geneva. Arriving in the evening we did not get much time to explore the city that night and had a bit of a difficult time finding a place to eat. The hotel and its partner hotel located around the corner were undergoing a bit of construction so the restaruant was not open at our hotel, but we were served breakfast which was included in our stay at the hotel next door. We even arrived for breakfast at the posted closing time but we were accoodated in a gorgeous upper floor banquet type hall with a very hearty buffet and an amazing view of Geneva. After breakfast we explored the city and waterfront and managed to get in a little bit of shopping.
The hotel lobby is not very large but the staff are welcoming and accomodating. They also have a very olf fashioned elevator in the lobby that we absolutely loved using. I have rarely seen elevators like this still in use.
Our room was actually an apartment in the hotel and it was an unexpected delight. You walked down the hall to the room and were greeted by a set of marble step leading up to the door of the room. Upon entering the room the bathroom which was a very good size was straight ahead. To the left was a kitchen and dining area, which included a dining room table, a fridge, stove and cooking utensils. Attached to this area is a sitting room with a couch, a large chair that pulled out to a single bed, writing desk and TV. Off of this room is a large bedroom with another TV, wardrobe and desk.
The bathroom I found large for a European bathroom and it was spotless. There was plenty of free sample products for your stay and the shower head was wonderful and the hot water supply seemed limitless.

Everywhere you looked in the bathroom there were guest ammenities for our use. We were there such a short time that we simply could not try them all, but the hotel appears to go out of its way to accomodate guests so I assume the products were satisfactory |
|
As you can tell there is a large selection of supplies for your personal use which included hair care products, shoe polishing cloth, shower cap etc. |
|
The lovely marble floor tiles show off the dual "appliances". The bidet and toilet are far enough apart so that you don't feel too cramped in the bathroom. The toilet offered a full or half flush. Both the toilet and the bidet were spotless, and had plenty of toilet paper and a towel for your use. |
|
A large mirror provides plenty of room for more than one person to do their personal grooming at a time. This area also includes a shaving/make-up mirror and a blow dryer |
|
Under the vanity this bathroom had a small stool with an extra towel as well as an extra toilet tissue role if the guest needed |
|
The shower head in this photo may look very low but in realiy the ceiling is very high. I enjoy shower heads that are removeable as this one was so that you can easy rinse off your feet or assist in getting hard to reach places. |
For people who have never travelled in Europe you may wonder exactly what this is. A funky towel rack? A radiator? It is actually a towel warmer. You can turn it on, and after your bath or shower wrap yourself in a warm towel.
This also comes in very handy if you have damp clothing you need to dry in a hurry.
