Portland Regency Hotel & Spa
Portland, Maine, USA |
We always like to arrive at our destination in the early afternoon. We prefer this for several reasons. Sometimes the hotel will upgrade you for free in your room is not ready and if that doesn't happen they keep your luggage safe while you explore the city and generally the room you requested or something nicer is waiting for you when you return. When we arrive later in the evening I always find you end up with the smaller rooms or rooms with a less than stellar view.
Due to the distance we had to travel to get to Portland we didn't arrive until after 8pm at night. The room we were given was not the room we booked, was extremely small and with my husband, adult son, teenage daughter and me, it was almost clausterphobic because they needed to bring a cot into the room that almost cut off access to the bathroom. We were only there for one night so it wasn't a huge deal. The hotel itself had a bit of an awkward layout but we found the historic building charming.
It was a short walk to the warf and shopping and dining areas. We managed to walk around for a bit before settling on a restaurant to have a quick bite. The next morning we were up early for some shopping before heading out to our next destination. All in all we found Portland enjoyable. I don't believe we will go back for a weekend, but would have no problem staying there for the night on our way somewhere else. There is nothing wrong with the city, but it wasn't as appealing to us as other cities we had visited.

The bathroom was certainly not large but it was spotless and modern. I found it very well appointed It had everything needed in sufficient quantity. I also love the tiling flooring they had. |
|
This is another view of the bathroom. Although it did not have the glass shower stalls that I personally prefer, the shower inside the bathtub worked out just fine and there were plenty of towels and extra toilet tissue. |
|
It is a really nice touch when hotels add shampoo/conditioner and shower gel dispensers in the shower. While we always bring our own with us, on occasion we run out, or forget it at another stop. It's even perfect if you are taking a quick shower before leaving and don't want to get all of your own products wet and having to pack them up right after. |

The tub surround had nice large, clean tiles. I always look in the corners to see if there is dirt or mold and it was spotless with no cracking of the tile and the caulking intact. There was also some nice brass safety rails that are not just handy for the handicapped but assist in ensuring you don't slip getting out of the tub. |
|
While the Portland Regency did not have a great selection of amenities they did offer a few things on a shelf above the vanity. Being a spa, I would have expected a little more offerings, however getting anything is always a nice touch. |

For those of you that want to add a special touch to your bathroom then hotels can give you great ideas on how to decorate with simple towels. This was just a folded towel with face cloths placed accordian style inside. Dress up the guest bathroom to make it more inviting in seconds without additional cost. |
